Class Descriptions: 
                                                                                                  
Whether you are just beginning your practice or have been practicing for years, everyone is welcome in every class.
 
BEGINNER YOGA: A gentle class consisting of breathing exercises, a preparatory warm-up, slow flowing yoga sequences, and restorative postures. Slow grooves, candle light, and light essential oil treatments; a great way to start or end the day! Appropriate for all levels, and the perfect choice for anyone new to yoga, those with injuries, health, weight or age concerns, and pregnancy or post-pregnancy.
 
VINYASA YOGA: A fun and energetic class that teaches the fundamentals of Vinyasa Yoga, including sun salutations, standing poses, balancing postures, seated and reclining poses, backbends, core isolation and strengthening. Special emphasis is placed on moving into and out of postures safely, correct alignment, using the breath, and learning to quiet the chatter of the mind to find peace and inner stillness. 
 
RESTORATIVE YOGA: We work very hard in our lives, and while we may sleep, we rarely take time to rest. Restorative yoga poses help us learn to relax and rest deeply and completely, balancing energy within the body so that the practitioner is neither over stimulated nor depleted. Props will be used to provide a completely supportive environment for total relaxation.
 
GENTLE FLOW: Incorporates an energetic, but not too assertive, blend of kundalini, hatha and breathwork. The class begins with centering exercises, focusing on the breath and taking inventory of where stress or tension reside within the body. Identifying areas of tightness allows us to revisit and relieve tension during the practice. The postures, or asanas, are sequenced to gradually deepen the level of exertion, while using an economy of motion. So, we begin on the mat, transition to all fours, then standing postures, inversions and wrap -up with supine postures before closing with savasana. We use a multitude of props for support, as needed or desired, and all postures may be modified according to the needs of the student. 
 
YOGA FLOW: A more dynamic class consisting of breath work to heat the body along with flowing yoga posture sequences, balancing exercises, restorative poses, inversions, and as always, relaxation. This more challenging class is appropriate for all levels.
 
KUNDALINI YOGA: Known as the yoga of awareness, it uses breath techniques, asana (Kriyas), meditation, relaxation and sound current to merge the physical body with the infinite body. The experience of Kundalini flow within the body is beautiful and empowering. When you awaken this latent energy and balance your life, you tap into inner strength and find yourself ready to meet life’s challenges with courage, grace, resolve, and radiance. 
 
JIVAMUKTI YOGA: Each class consists of flowing vinyasa sequences, breath awareness, meditation, chanting, hands-on adjustments, philosophical teachings and commentary, and deep relaxation. All kinds of postures are incorporated into each class including standing poses, forward bends, backward bends, twists, and inversions. Music plays in the background to make each class a unique experience.
 
Karuna For Animals presents: KIDS YOGA & HUMANE EDUCATION (5-7 and 8-10 year olds): Our thematic yoga classes for children are lighthearted, relaxing and educational, bringing together traditional yoga with the compassionate and animated nature of young children. The child-friendly classes promote environmental awareness, foster respect for the animal kingdom, cultivate kindness to self and others, and encourage positive thinking. The age and developmentally appropriate classes feature yoga poses, yoga games, calming breathing exercises, creative relaxation techniques - along with creative yoga-related activities including art, storybooks, music, and discussions on how to be kind and compassionate to all living beings. $100 per six week session per child. JOURNEY DANCE™ combines organic movement, theater improvisation, creative visualization, affirmations, and an exploration of the chakra system, your body’s energy centers. You are led on a deep and exhilarating dance experience to activate your own power, sensuality, love, and innate wisdom. Through breath, movement, yoga, sound and music, the dance becomes a spiritual practice for feeling your true divinity and learning to transform obstacles into stepping-stones to manifest personal dreams and visions.
 
MEDITATION: Is a way of self-transformation through self-observation. It focuses on the deep interconnection between mind and body, which can be experienced directly by disciplined attention to the physical sensations that form the life of the body, and that continuously interconnect and condition the life of the mind. It is this observation-based, self-exploratory journey to the common root of mind and body that dissolves mental impurity, resulting in a balanced mind full of love and compassion.

REIKI ENERGY HEALING CIRCLE & GUIDED MEDITATION: Starts with a 10 minute guided healing meditation, followed by individual 20 minute Reiki healing sessions per person. Space is limited to 8 people. Must Email or call Anthony and Mindy to register. Class is by donation. 516-935-0354
